Which Corporate Fitness Trends Will Shape 2023?

As a corporate fitness professional, one of my favorite activities at the end of each year is to set aside time to look back at what has unfolded over the past 12 months. It helps to review what has worked for our clients (as well as what didn’t work so well). An open-minded, reflective analysis is always a good way to put things into perspective before considering new possibilities and mapping a game plan for the New Year. As part of this process, I’m constantly tracking what’s happening with corporate fitness trends. So much has changed over the past few years,

The Hidden Dangers of Manual Benefits Reconciliation

The Hidden Dangers of Manual Benefits Reconciliation

The ancient Roman philosopher Virgil once said that “The greatest wealth is health.” There’s a lot of truth in those words. Many companies, large and small, invest heavily in resources to attract and retain top talent and provide benefits that keep those employees and their families happy and healthy. According to a study conducted by SHRM, more and more companies are focused on providing a broader benefits package, with one-third of companies surveyed saying they had increased their benefits offerings in the previous 12 months to better compete for talent. It can be challenging for employers and HR teams to manage

Which Comes First, the Culture or the Practices? The Chicken-and-Egg Problem in HR Tech

Which Comes First, the Culture or the Practices? The Chicken-and-Egg Problem in HR Tech

In the innovation and HR tech field, one of the common concerns we hear from people is that their culture might not be ready for new practices, processes or tools. They say their employees simply wouldn’t be ready for the kind of transparency and personal responsibility that are central for virtually all modern collaboration platforms. This might include platforms for employee engagement, idea management or internal communication. They often continue by saying that unless a culture shift happens prior to introducing these tools or related practices, they would be very likely to fail. On the other hand, there are also people

How to Nurture Your High-Potential Employees

How to Nurture Your High-Potential Employees

With 6 million job openings and about half of U.S. employees contemplating a job change, the hiring market seems straightforward. But before launching a broad search for candidates, take an objective look to evaluate how well your company leverages its internal talent pool. Promoting from within has obvious advantages. For one thing, internal candidates know the organization and have a proven performance record. This means they can hit the ground running because of their familiarity with the company culture and the relationships they’ve built. Filling a job with a high-potential internal candidate is also typically faster and more cost-effective. Beyond the

I’m still pondering the ramifications of this shiny tool. But it happened, and in the reporting that accompanied the announcement, one observation went unsaid. Old School, Meet New School For recruiters and talent management pros

Can't Separate the Cognitive from Diversity: #TChat Recap

“You and I, we are pressed into these solitudes Color and culture, language and race Just variations on a theme Islands in a much larger stream For you and me — Race is not a competition For you and me — Race is not a definition For you and me — We agree Reaching for the alien shore…” –Neil Peart, Rush (“Alien Shore” from Counterparts) That’s usually the first thing we think of when we hear the word “diversity,” or lack thereof. It’s either that, or stereotypical gender, age, physical or mental abilities and limitations. We default to these without giving

It's the Brave New World of Work: #TChat Recap

“Nothing is really work unless you would rather be doing something else.” -James Matthew Barrie Somehow I missed that memo the first time around. The one about making sure to underestimate your marketplace and overestimate your sales cycle when you’re starting a new business. Or even a new career for that matter. New careers are self-contained yet interconnected businesses within themselves. Entrepreneurship has always included career management, business development, [personal] brand marketing, sales and sticky-sweet (but legitimate) customer service. Because most, if not all entrepreneurs were employees with careers going anywhere but where they wanted to go. So they launch new

Work-Life Balance? It's Just "Life" #TChat Recap

Sometimes we find zen. A moment of harmonic convergence in our lives when all things family, friends, co-workers, employers, work and life become one. Sometimes. Work-life balance. [sigh] Wait, who are we kidding, right? We don’t time zone travel with a head cold on a flurry of work trips for balance. We don’t wake up every 1-2 hours for to soothe the savage 8-month-old baby “beast” for balance. That’s me and my family at any rate this past few weeks. But, we wouldn’t give it up for all the zen in China because the intrinsic rewards outweigh the work-life imbalance —
