An Open Letter to you, the Worker
Personal health and wellness is more important than most of us realize. Make sure you are taking it seriously.
Personal health and wellness is more important than most of us realize. Make sure you are taking it seriously.
Dear Hard and Dedicated Worker, I am writing to you today as our data highlights that you have not been spending time taking care of yourself. While we acknowledge that you do good work, we also want you to remember that you need to rest and take time to treat yourself with tender loving care. In case you got too busy being an exceptional worker, we wanted to remind you that you need to make time for yourself every day to do what brings you joy. You should never wait for a vacation or retreat to take meticulous care of your body,
Most of us have not quite realized that there is something remarkable happening in the world, something that is available to each of us, should we choose this path. Human history repeats itself and will continue to do so if we do not break the cycle. Our systems are cracking, and it’s time to see the opportunities that are emerging instead of looking only for problems. As we watch history repeat itself, we have two basic choices: we can recognize that we have already seen this movie and its sequel before and therefore can predict how it will play out next time;
Can you imagine what is possible now? There is no other time than now! Let’s go make it happen. What are you waiting for? This is a call to action for leaders who aspire to next generation business success. The Current Reality A growing number of people and organizations are recognizing that another person’s best practices are often not applicable to their own situation. Guidance from others is vital, but we need to gain a greater integrated understanding of our own unique situations, goals, and purpose, and then implement new approaches that fit our own specific business needs and opportunities. A
For the 21st century leader, whatever we create in our business should have a meaningful impact and inspire others to share in our higher purpose. To truly be the leader the world needs today, we need to consider and discuss the importance of these elements as part of our journey to creating a more humane and saner world: Be A Conscious 21st Century Leader! Conscious leaders focus on continuously asking themselves these questions: What is my life’s purpose? What does it propel me to create in the world? How will my life’s work make the world a better place for me, my community, and
The top three currencies for the 21st century are trust, relationships, and community. You may have been conditioned to believe they are efficiency, productivity, and constant growth because those are the metrics most organizations focus on. This is because, in essence, we are not taught about how to connect to our deeper feelings in business. We are expected to cut them off from our business environments in the pursuit of being seen as a professional and achieving set markers of “success.” It is widely accepted that it is uncool and unwise to bring our emotions to work. We have been told
I have been on the biggest adventure of my life even though I feel like our lives are a series of adventures, where we have the opportunity to blaze new paths or sit back and watch someone else’s adventure. It is always a choice, no matter what anyone tells us. We can either tell ourselves a story about why we can’t do something or we can look at an opportunity and say, “giddy up, let’s go.” Some people will tell you that it takes courage to uncover what is deep in your heart and while there is truth in that belief,
While resistance to change continues to be alive and well in many organizations, the world is changing every day. We are in a time when entire economies, organizations and industries are transforming. And yet, we use antiquated organizational change management practices in our 21st century world. The biggest change leaders need to make is to have clarity on the shared purpose of their organization and how to deliver on it in a simple way where employees understand their roles. Change is inevitable. And what is needed is a total mindset change and not a program that can be delegated to a team to
Before we can address the question of what jobs will be created for humans as automation takes over current roles, we need to focus on a question that most people are not asking. We have so many people talking about the future of work and yet, work has evolved so much over the last few decades that we no longer have an understanding of what work is. Is it having a job? Is it getting a paycheque? Is it contributing to society? What work will look like is an important question we need to ask before we focus on skills and jobs. What
In our current society, noise rules. We are told the more likes we have, the better life is. We are told influencers rule. Get to know them and you can write your own ticket. Some of our Outlook or Google calendars are filled with back-to-back meetings. We run from one to another, being busy and “working.” And at the end of the day, we may feel exhausted (justifiably) and a little bit empty. But we keep that newsflash to ourselves. On the outside, we are seen as successful and having the life everyone should aspire to have: the job, the income,
I am often invited to share interactive keynotes on the future of work and too often I am asked to highlight the best practices of companies like Google and Facebook. I rarely comply and mostly ask, “How is that relevant? What makes your organization unique and how can we tap into that richness of what works well for you? Why do people love working here and doing business with YOU?” An entirely different conversation emerges when we start asking questions and listening than providing the traditional 7-steps to success. We have somehow not only got lazy by believing there is a
More people will pick themselves in the 21st century. Choice is abundant and there is simply a multitude of opportunities and possibilities. That is the exciting new path for people in the human-to-human purpose and experience driven era. Many will no longer wait to be picked for that job, promotion or project. An increasing number of people will start picking themselves and setting their own path as they see life as a daring adventure, where work is just one element of it. LIFEworking will be a way of life. We will start asking ourselves, what’s my enough? And realizing that we
LIFEwork is about the adventure that so many souls before us have taken to explore with compassion what is possible for us to live fully. The work for each of us is to go deep inside and discover what fuels us: to know who you are and what you want to create. People may try to convince you that they know what’s best for you, but you know better. No one has the answers for you, but you. More and more people every day are waking up and realizing we have a real choice to make about how we live our
