This is a short, simple deck from my longtime friend Nick Kellet and his co-author, Jane Boyd.
Recently they announced a product to publish a book that explores the art of social engagement. The book is called UnLurk Me?
It is an art, getting people to participate in social media and online community. There is no question about it. It’s also a large and time consuming commitment. There are very few shortcuts.
What’s more, social media has changed, it’s always changing. That’s actually one of the laws in the book: The Law of Never Done. Meanings, culture, tasks and our beliefs are always in a constant state of slow change.
Lurking is a classic example. It used to have a negative meaning close to that of stalker. Now it’s really evolved to mean “Internet for just looking”. Staying on on top of change is great way to be an innovative leader or brand, to have a fresh lens into what’s current – The Law of Hot or Not.
What stops people from engaging? What stops leaders? What stops brands? What stops your employees? The Law of Self Doubt Maybe? Something I’m pondering – that’s for sure.
Nick & Jane are on to something here with their 24 Social Laws.
Social participation and culture matter in the workplace and outside of it – online, in forums and at live events.
Which law speaks to you?
